ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 27, 2015—Fastest qualifier BP Cartels Policy is one of 10 sophomores entered back in Saturday’s 400-yard, $66,660 Iowa Double Gold Derby (R) at Prairie Meadows.

A gelded son of Cartel Success, BP Cartels Policy is trained by Brent Clay for owner John Lawless. The gelding has earned $87,767 from seven outs this season, and his race record includes a third-place finish, a half of a length behind winner Rpainted Wagon, in the 400-yard, $370,000 Heritage Place Derby (G2) at Remington Park in May.

BP Cartels Policy drew the rail post and will be ridden by Stormy Smith.

Also on Saturday, fastest qualifier Woop Dee Doo is the 3-1 morning-line favorite in the 350-yard, $151,912 Iowa Double Gold Futurity (R).

A gelding by Good Reason SA owned and trained by Ricardo Martinez, Woop Dee Doo extended his win streak to three with a 4 1/2-length victory in the last of five trials on August 15. The gelding shipped in from Indiana, where he scored a wire-to-wire, 2 3/4-length win in the July 4, $82,000 Heartland Futurity at Indiana Grand Racecourse.

Woop Dee Doo will be ridden by Cristian Esqueda from post 10 in the Iowa Double Gold Futurity final. Other contenders include Tom Lepic’s The Fiscal Cliff, a homebred son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon. The Fiscal Cliff has banked $46,084 from four outs, and his three wins include a head victory in the 350-yard, $100,000 Heritage Place Juvenile Invitational Stakes (R) at Remington Park on May 30.
