LOS ALAMITOS, CA— APRIL 1, 2015—Francisco Vega's Bac In Front will go after her fourth victory in a row when she heads a field of 10 sophomore fillies in the $205,200 La Primera Del Ano Derby at 400 yards on Friday at Los Alamitos. First post time is 7 p.m. (PDT).

To be ridden by Carlos Huerta for trainer Jaime Gomez, Bac In Front will enter the Grade 3 event in the best of forms. The California-bred sired by the champion Foose won her trial easily by 1 ¼ lengths on March 14 after scored by a similar margin in an allowance race on February 15. Gomez, who ranks sixth all-time at Los Alamitos with 65 stakes victories, has never won the La Primera during his distinguished career, but the filly out of the Grade 1 winning mare Running Bac gives him an excellent opportunity to win this event for the first time.

"We schooled her in the gate last Friday and again on (Thursday) and she's been doing everything perfectly," Gomez said. "She's starting from post number four and drew right next to the quick filly Take A Look. I think Bac In Front will be fine as long as she avoids any bumping during the race."

Bac In Front has won all three of her starts since being acquired via a private purchase by her owner, whose family operates a successful produce business based in Chicago. The Vega family entered the vegetable business as growers in Mexico in the 1950s and by the early 1970s they had opened La Hacienda in Chicago's old South Water Street Market. A vendor of Mexican produce and Mexican canned foods, La Hacienda eventually became La Galera Produce in 2004.

The La Primera field will also feature Ed Allred's Take A Look and Abigail Kawananakoa's A Goddess Thru Fire, a pair of stakes winners as 2-year-olds at Los Alamitos. Take A Look, a La Primera trial winner trained by James Glenn Jr., won the Freshman Stakes for Fillies on California Breeders Champions Night, while A Goddess Thru Fire won the Corona Chick Handicap while also running second in the PCQHRA Breeders Futurity. Eulices Gomez, who returned to riding last weekend after missing nine months because of injury, will ride Take A Look from post number three. The jockey had a winning ride for the connections aboard the 3-year-old filly Deceptive last Sunday night.

Trained by Paul Jones, A Goddess Thru Fire was third to Take A Look in the trials. She'll be ridden by Rodolfo Arvizu from the outside post number 10.

The ultra quick filly Foo Who is another one to watch in the La Primera. Owned by Michael Zynda, the Foose filly has posted two electrifying victories at the Orange County oval during her career, including a 2 1/2 length maiden victory last year. Cody Joiner will saddle Foo Who, who'll be ridden by Cesar De Alba from post number two.

The field to the La Primera Del Ano Derby will feature Delightful Molly, a half-sister of champion Five Bar Cartel, and Skinny Jeans, who ran a solid second to Bac In Front in the trials. Breeders Futurity finalist Run By You, AJS Annas Victory, Lavish Ivory, and Valiant Energy will complete the field.
