OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 30, 2015—AJs High, a homebred Apollitical Jess gelding racing for Michael C. Teel, will make his 3-year-old debut in the second of six Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby (RG3) trials on Thursday.
The first Remington Park Derby trial is scheduled to go off at 6:52 p.m. (CDT), with the last heat slated for 9:02. The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the April 18, $130,000-added final.
AJs High ended his 2-year-old campaign with a three-race win streak that included a half-length victory as the 5-2 favorite in the 350-yard, $150,000 John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship (G2) at Prairie Meadows. The gelding is trained by Charley Hunt, and he has earned $128,485 from five outs.
AJs High will be ridden by Stormy Smith from post 6 in the second trial. The gelding’s nine opponents in the second heat include Duane Harrel’s Nkhoots, a homebred daughter of PYC Paint Your Wagon conditioned by Clinton Crawford. The upset winner of last year’s 350-yard, $280,000 Valley Junction Futurity at Prairie Meadows, Nkhoots drew post 8 and will be ridden by G.R. Carter Jr.
Bobby D. Cox’s Count De Monet, a stakes-winning son of Brimmerton trained by John Buchanan, drew post 2 in the third trial. Carter has been named to ride the gelding, who has banked $174,301 from four outs and who ran third, a neck behind winner Lovethewayyoulie, in last year’s 350-yard, $1.021-million Heritage Place Futurity (G1) at Remington.
