Rapid James will head a full field in Saturday's $45,000 New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes (R) for state-bred 2-year-olds at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino.

SUNLAND PARK, NM—MARCH 30, 2015—--Rapid James, a homebred gelding by Jesse James Jr owned by Currie Maben of Clovis, New Mexico, drew post 7 for Saturday’s 300-yard, $45,000 New Mexican Spring Fling Stakes (R) for state-bred 2-year-olds at Sunland Park.

Trained by Arturo Chavez, Rapid James made his career debut with a fourth-place finish in a New Mexican Spring Futurity (RG2) trial on March 13. The gelding recorded the 11th-fastest qualifying time and just missed making the cut for the April 5, $229,200 Spring Futurity.

Manuel Gutierrez will ride Rapid James in the Spring Fling.

Other contenders include Gary L. Thompson’s Chicks A Lady, the 7-2 morning-line favorite who drew onto the also-eligibles list. Chicks A Lady is trained by Victor Escobar, and the bay daughter of Chicks A Blazin broke her maiden with a neck victory in the first of five Spring Futurity trials.
