OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 16, 2014—The restricted Grade 3, Remington Park Futurity is set for Saturday night. The post-positions for the field of 10 qualifiers were determined during the morning draw in the racing office.

The Remington Park Futurity is part of an extremely lucrative program for Oklahoma-breds that includes the Remington Park Derby, the Remington Park Juvenile and all of the trial races used to qualify the finalists for the races. There are also financial awards for the owners and breeders in the program that is valued at $1,849,000 million this year, making it the richest state-bred futurity and derby program in the sport.

Specials Jamie, the top qualifier from the first night of trials on April 4 drew post position number five. Owned and bred by A.C. Taylor of Seminole, Okla. and trained by Kasey Willis, Specials Jamie won her first career race in her trial score. Under Agustin Silva, the daughter of Ivory James crossed the 330-yard finish in :16.583 seconds in the fifth trial of the night.

Finishing behind Specials Jamie were Beneteau and AJs High in second and third. Both also qualified for the Remington Park Futurity.

The second-night of time trials saw three horses from the very last trial make it to the final. Penthouse Sweet put up the fastest clocking of the evening in the final heat, finishing in :16.726. Owned by Reliance Ranches of Llano, Texas and trained by Eddie Willis, Penthouse Sweet was ridden by Jimmy Brooks who keeps the call in the final. A 2-year-old old Corona Cartel filly, Penthouse Sweet was bred by Bobby Cox.

Running second and third behind Penthouse Sweet in the final trial on April 5 were Beyond Gold Medal and WL Mr Goodtime.

In an always-difficult task of placing a morning-line on qualifiers from two different nights of racing, Remington Park odds-maker Jerry Shottenkirk has tabbed Great Grace, a filly from the first crop of world champion Apollitical Jess, as the 5-2 morning-line choice for the Remington Park Futurity.

"Great Grace was the second-fastest qualifier on April 4 but was the most impressive performer of the evening as she won her trial by more than two lengths, in hand,” Shottenkirk noted. “She probably had something left in the tank that day and is the one to beat after that effort."

The Remington Park Futurity final is worth $791,000 and will be the 11th of a dozen races on the program that starts at 6pm. The futurity is scheduled for 10:20pm. The field by program and post-position order, with trainers, jockeys and morning-line odds:

  1. AJs High: Charlton Hunt, Stormy Smith, 20-1
  2. Beneteau: Eddie Willis, Larry Payne, 12-1
  3. WL Mr Goodtime: Cody McCart, Jesus Salazar, 20-1
  4. Great Grace: Trey Wood, Ricky Ramirez, 5-2
