Addie Lane, ridden by Gaspar Garcia, goes wire-to-wire for the win clocking fastest qualifying time to the $40,000 added Grade 3 John Deere Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge on Friday night.

HOUSTON, TX–MAY 26, 2023–Six trial races were set for the $125,945 Grade 3 John Deere Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge on Friday night. The top two fastest times came from trial number four with Addie Lane clocking the top speed over Stormguard for an upset.

Ridden by Gaspar Garcia, Addie Lane made a strong drive for a gate-to-wire 1/2-length victory in :17.842 seconds clocking a 95 speed index. With 7/1 odds at the start, Addie Lane’s victory over post-time favorite Stormguard paid $17.20 to win.

This trial victory was the first win from two starts for Addie Lane and the $6,000 winner’s share of the purse ups her earnings to $9,420. Luis Raul Garcia Nino conditions the daughter of Bogart for owner/breeder Gary Easley. The Texas-bred filly is out of Waverlee by Wave Carver.

Piloted by Victor Urieta, Jr, Stormguard chased Addie Lane to the wire crossing 2 1/4-lengths ahead of Mp Just Rip It for second fastest time. Trained by Juan Diaz, Jr., the son of Duponte has three starts with one win and $12,530 in the bank.

Breeders Chad Hart and Bobby D. Cox sold Stormguard in last year’s TQHA Yearling Sale for $17,500 to his current owners Silvestre and Maria Maldonado. The Texas-bred gelding is out of Apollitical Regard by Apollitical Jess.

Favored to win his trial heat, Vodka From Texas clocked the third fastest time from trial one under the guidance of Jose Vega. The son of Triple Vodka has one win from three starts and $9,500 in earnings.

Trainer Arturo Terrazas, III saddled Vodka From Texas for owner/breeder Terrazzo Family. The Texas-bred gelding is out of Prairie War Princess by Dashing Is Easy.
