L Bar D Mistr Cartel Breaks Maiden, Sets Top Mark in Far West Futurity Trials
L Bar D Mistr Cartel (#8) gets up over Hell On Horseshoes (#4) to set the fastest qualifying time for the $75,000-est. Far West Futurity Sunday at Grants Pass Downs.

L Bar D Mistr Cartel Breaks Maiden, Sets Top Mark in Far West Futurity Trials

GRANTS PASS, OR—OCTOBER 17, 2021—Firecracker Futurity runner-up L Bar D Mistr Cartel got his first win on Sunday while posting the top qualifying time for the Far West Futurity at Grants Pass Downs.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from four trial races contested over 400 yards for 2-year-old Quarter Horses, will return to Grants Pass on Monday, November 8th to vie for the winner's share of a $75,000-est. purse.

Under jockey Martin Osuna, L Bar D Mistr Cartel got up by a nose over Hell On Horseshoes in the second trial, stopping the clock in :19.836 seconds, a 99 speed index into a 4 mph crosswind, to set the establish to top mark.

Trainer Hector Magallanes conditions the son of multiple stakes sire Majestic Cartel for owner-breeder's Darrel and Linda Sanders. Out of the Devon Lane (TB) mare Fly Misty Fly, L Bar D Mistr Cartel has compiled a (4) 1-3-0 record and earned $19,550 this year. He was bred in Oregon.

Trainer Hector Magallanes also saddled 4th fastest Leaving Angelz and 10th fastest Uncle Shine.

Runner-up in the second trial Hell On Horseshoes held on to the second fastest time of :19.850 seconds, also a 99 speed index. Owned-and-trained by Roberto Guzman Herrera the son of Fly Chisolm Fly was ridden by jockey Santiago Jimenez.

Out of the Sixthirteen (TB) mare Just Began (TB), Hell On Horseshoes has compiled a (6) 2-1-0 record and earned $10,140. He was a finalist in the Firecracker Futurity at Grants Pass Downs last summer.

Five Bar Cali, another Firecracker Futurity finalist, was a nose winner in the third trial to get the third fastest time of :19.865 seconds, another 99 speed index. Danny Montes trains the California-Bred daughter of multiple stakes sire Five Bar Cartel.

Jaime Lopez rode the sorrel filly for owner Jorge Carmona. Bred by Erik Flores, from the Royalty Choice mare Queen Of Cali, Five Bar Cali has earned $9,250.

Five Bar Cartel lead all sire with three qualifiers.
