Southern Electric Dominates Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity Trials

CLAREMORE, OK—OCTOBER 19, 2019—Southern Electric, under jockey Cody Smith, rolled to a 1-¾ length win in the first of two trials Saturday to set the fastest qualifying time for the Speedhorse Paint & Appaloosa Futurity Saturday afternoon at Will Rogers Downs.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Will Rogers on Saturday, November 9th to vie for the winner's share of a $20,000-added purse going 400 yards .

Saddled by trainer Matt Whitekiller, Southern Electric completed the 400 yards in :20.089 seconds, a 91 speed index, to set the top qualifying time. The multiple stakes winning daughter of leading Paint sire Crm Livewire is an Oklahoma Texas homebred owned by Dan and Kaye Jones.

Out of the Southern Cartel (QH) mare Ze Southern Cartel (QH), Southern Electric has compiled an (11) 8-1-1 record and earned $166,816 this season. Whitekiller and jockey Cody Smith also team in the second trial with Dtl Chasin Tale who won by half-a-length to get the second fastest clocking of :20.160 seconds. It was the sixth win 10 starts and has earned more than $211,280.

DTL Teel Partnership owns the two-time futurity winning gelding by first-crop Quarter Horse sire Wagon Tales. Bred in Oklahoma by Dean and Tonya Lester, the bay gelding is out of Shez Showin Off, by Sf Royal Quick Flash.
