Country Boy 123 Establishes New Track Record for 250 Yards at Ajax Downs

AJAX, ONT—SEPTEMBER 17, 2018—In a prep race for the upcoming Alex Picov Memorial Championship reigning Ajax Horse of the Year County Boy 123 shaved 9/100ths off Ajax Downs' 250 yard track record on Monday.

Making his first start at this short of a distance, the gelding went to the post in the track's $14,492 250-yard Sprint Series (not black type) in Monday's 6th race.

Country Boy 123 bust to the front under jockey Cory Spataro right out of the gate then cleared the field by three-quarters of a length to stop the clock at :12.920 seconds, a 114 speed index with a 5 mph tailwind.

The previous record of :13.010 seconds was set by Rockish on June 14, 2009.

The 5-year-old son of champion Country Chicks Man scored his sixth consecutive win to remain undefeated in 2018. In the last two years the bay gelding has lost only two races, getting second in both of those starts. He has compiled a (25) 17-4-0 record and earned nearly $230,000.

Owned-and-trained by Ruth Barbour, County Boy 123 was bred in Michigan by Carolyn Bay from the Dash Thru Traffic mare Very Dashin 123.

His next start could be the October 8th $75,000-added Alex Picov Memorial Championship at 440 yards.
