TULSA, OK—JUNE 17, 2018—Hooked On A Win, under jockey Daniel Torres, out-dueled Ihaveallthecontrol to a neck win in the $17,500 Golden Driller Stakes Sunday evening at Fair Meadows in Tulsa.
The 3-year-old son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon scored his second consecutive win while completing the 350 yards in :17.805 seconds into a 14 mph headwind. The $10,338 winners' purse boosted his lifetime mark to $51,884.
Trainer Kenny Laymon saddled the bay gelding for owner Regina Laymon. JK Running Horses LLS bred Hooked On A Win in Oklahoma from the Pretty Boy Perry mare Pretty Girl Kate.
Runner-up Ihaveallthecontrol, a 5-year-old son of Jess Tambien, races for owner Anastacio Martinez and trainer Cristino Estrada-Regalado. Gonzalo Gutierrez had the riding assignment to pick up $2,946 for second. Jimmy Sellers bred the sorrel gelding in Oklahoma from the Mount Blanc mare Nellie Blanc.
Jc Wild Rose, a stakes winning daughter of leading sire Apollitical Jess, was game third 1 ¼ lengths back after bobbling the start under jockey Jose Vega. Carlos Ruiz trains the Oklahoma homebred for owner/breeder Jose Cervantes. Out of the Stoli mare Oh Cherokee Rose, Jc Wild Rose earned $1,895 for push her earnings total to $112,281.
She Looks Racy, Captain Trick, Bad Neighbor, Corona Senator and Vf Eyebaman completed the field. Paint My Pilot was scratched.
