Ls Prince Gets Up at Wire to Win Picov Derby

AJAX, ONT—SEPTEMBER 18, 2017—Ls Prince got up the wire in a blanket finish to defeat Hickerson by a head in the $83,558(US) Picov Derby at Ajax Downs Monday afternoon. Miromar finished another head back to take third.

Ridden by jockey Josh Scott, Ls Prince rolled over the 400 yards in a quick :19.870 clocking, with a 10-mph tailwind, to record a 103-speed index. It was the fifth win in n10 starts for the multiple stakes winning son of Louisiana Senator. The $31,652(US) winners' purse boosted his career earnings total to $55,647.

Trainer Jason Pascoe saddled the bay gelding to second derby win of the season for owner Milena Kwiecien. Bred in Texas by Paris Wixon, from the Sixarun mare Princess Sixarun, Ls Prince also won the Adequan Ajax Derby Challenge last month.

He is expected to make his next start in the $180,000 Guaranteed Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G3) October 14th at Prairie Meadows.

Hickerson, who took second in his final jump, races for owner Richard Wincikaby and DK Training Centre. Don Reid conditions the Country Chicks Man gelding out of Easily Holland by Holland Ease. Bred in Ontario by Guylaine Paquin, Hickerson earned $18,285(US) for his effort.

Oklahoma-bred Miromar earned $7,913(US) for his third-place finish. Also, trained by Jason Pascoe, the son of Ivory James races for owner GFR Equine Services. Bobby D. Cox bred the brown gelding from the Azoom mare Azomin With Jessie.

Fastest qualifier and posttime favorite Ghost Pines made the lead but was caught to finish fourth. Mrs First Lady, Zoxtobeyou, Fishin For A Corona, The Dominyunator, Coronas Chrome and Rpainted Pistol completed the field.
