PHOENIX, AZ—DECEMBER 4, 2016—Under jockey Martin Osuna, fastest qualifier May Be Fantastic Sa broke on top before handily defeating Fighter Gone Wild by 1-˝ lengths in the $40,802 AQRA-Turf Paradise Open Derby Sunday afternoon at Turf Paradise.
Saddled by trainer Ubaldo Guerrero, May Be Fantastic Sa completed the 400 yards in :19.710 seconds, a 99-speed index over the track rated fast. It was the fourth career win for the son of Fantastic Corona Jr and the $20,401 winners' purse boosted his lifetime total to $37,431.
Orlando Guerrero owns the Oklahoma-bred colt out of Darlin Treis by Tres Seis. Gianni Franco Samaja bred the sorrel who also finished third in the AQHA President's Spring Derby and Arapahoe Derby Challenge earlier this year.
Bumped at the start, Fighter Gone Wild under jockey Justine Klaiber, chased the winner to finish a neck in front of Heza A Royal Jess for second. Owned-bred and trained by Thomas Lichlyter, Fighter Gone Wild earned $8,161 to bring his bankroll total to $21,387.
Also, bumped at the start, Heza A Royal Jess put in a game effort to get third under jockey Jordan Hadley. Janis Calton trains the H & E Ranch, Inc. homebred son of Mr Jess Perry out of Im Royal Satin by Royal Quick Dash.
Winner of the AQRA-Turf Paradise Futurity last year, Heza A Royal Jess picked up $4,080 or the effort. The gray gelding has earned nearly $61,000.
Completing the field were La China Maluca, The Manly Art, This Doll Ca Run, Stella Corona, Rockn Cowboy, Mr Jb Perry and Likes A Dare.
