First Crop Sire Lil Kool Wagon Dominates Iowa Stallion Futurity Trials

ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 21, 2016—First crop sire Lil Kool Wagon dominated trails for the $50,000-added Iowa Stallion Futurity at Prairie Meadows on Sunday—siring half-the-field.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Prairie Meadows on Sunday, September 4th to vie for the winner's share of the purse going 350 yards.

Making just his second start, Lil Stepper broke his maiden with a two length win in the first trial to set the top qualifying time of :17.834 seconds with a 15 mph tailwind. Jorge Torres was in the saddle.

Trainer Stacey Charette-Hill conditions the son of Lil Kool Wagon for owners Michael Pohl and Bob Ulrich. Lil Stepper is out of the Special Legend mare Ru Special.

Other finalists by Lil Kool Wagon included 3rd fastest Mr Special Wagon, 5th fastest Kool Lil Jess; 7th fastest Foxys Lil Wagon and 9th fastest Mga Lil Kool Wilena.

Ridden by jockey Berkley Packer, R Slick Talker won the second trial by 1¼ lengths while getting the third fastest time of :18.191 into a 20 mph crosswind.

Jason Olmstead trains the homebred son of Talkalota Bull for owner/breeder Leonard Reed. Out of the Special Leader mare Special Bold Chick, R Slick Talker got his first win in four starts.

Olmstead also saddled second fastest qualifier Crusin The Lake.

Other sires with multiple qualifiers included Talkalota Bull and Jus Amazing Jess who sired two each.
