AJAX, ONT—MAY 22, 2016—Multiple stakes winner One Famous Glass dueled First Down The Track to a nose win on Sunday to post the top qualifying mark for the Picov Maturity at Ajax Downs.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from two trial races run over 300 yards today, will return to Ontario's Ajax Downs Sunday, June 5th to vie for the winner's share of a $50,000-added purse.
Ridden by jockey Helen Vanek, One Famous Glass completed the his task in :15.510 seconds, a 97 speed index into a 5 mph headwind, to garner to the top qualifying mark.
Trainer Bryn Robertson saddled the One Famous Eagle 6-year-old to his 13th career win for owners Carol Robertson, Jaime Robertson and Dr. Charles Hall. He has earned nearly $157,500.
Burnett Ranches LLC bred the sorrel gelding in Texas from the Royal Quick Dash mare Quick Glass.
Also a multiple stakes winner, First Down The Track clocked the second fastest time of :15.510 for owners Richard Wincikaby and DK Training Centre. Don Reid trains the daughter of leading sire Corona Cartel.
Memories Times Six was a nose winner over Sign It Down in the first trial to get the fourth fastest time of :15.770 seconds. Joe Tavares saddled the son of Sixes Royal for owner Picov Cattle Co.
Bred in Ontario by Joyce and Erik Lehtinen, Memories Times Six has won six races and earned $74,745. He is out of the Leaving Memories mare Is It Memorex.
