PHOENIX, AZ—MARCH 29, 2015—Desert Classic Futurity winner Magical Righter roared to a 1˝ length win in the first of two trials Sunday at Turf Paradise to set the fastest qualifying mark to the AQRA President's Open Spring Derby.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the two trials races contested over 350 yards, will return to Turf Paradise on Sunday, April 19 and vie for the winner's share of a $10,000-added purse.

Coming off a second place effort in a non black-type final at Rillito Park on February 21, Magical Righter broke third but drew clear of Sonoran Foose 2 to post the top qualifying time of :17.573 seconds, a 99 speed index. It was the third win in eight starts for the Righter filly out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Bf Fantastic Dream.

Jockey Emilio Tapia had the riding assignment for trainer Benito Guillen Vega. Amanda Casper owns Magical Righter and Jose Holguin is the breeder. The brown filly has earned nearly $40,000.

Majestic Policy, a Mighty Invictus gelding who defeated Magical Righter in their last start, posted the second fastest qualifying time after cruising to a three-quarter length win in the second trial while clocking a :17.734, a 95 speed index.

Also a three-time winner, Majestic Policy races for owner Rey Moreno and is conditioned by trainer Tomas Moreno. Rodolfo Arvizu had the riding call aboard the sorrel gelding out of Miss Jp Delight, by Mr Jess Perry. Eaves Horses Family Ltd. Partnership bred Majestic Policy in Texas.

Trainer Matthew M. Fales saddled five of the 10 qualifiers including third fastest, the aforementioned Sonoran Foose 2. The lightly raced Foose colt broke his maiden in his last start on March 11 at Turf Paradise. The bay is a homebred for owner/breeder Alejando Marcelo Camou out of the Separatist mare Biggist.
