Boy Named Lou Cruises Over Thoroughbreds In Gateway Stakes

SUNLAND PARK, NM—APRIL 15, 2014—Boy Named Lou cleared the field early then cruised up by as many as three lengths before registering a three-quarter length win in the $50,000-Guranteed Gateway Stakes on the closing day card at Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino on Tuesday afternoon.

In his second career start at 870 yards it was the first career win for the lightly races 3-year-old son of Gonna Ro Sham Bo. Under jockey Casey Lambert Boy Named Lou completed the 870 yards course in a quick :44.970 seconds to earn a 95 speed index. The $30,000 winner's purse boosted his career total to nearly $40,000.

Trainer Michael Joiner saddled the gelding for the partnership of Joe Dee Rushing, Ted Rushing and Lee Lewis. Fred Alexander bred Boy Named Lou in New Mexico from the Bono Jazz mare Lou de Lou. He now has a (7) 1-2-1 record. Backers were rewarded with a $30.20 win payoff.

The Thoroughbred D E Lover finished second for owner Tony Sedillo and E.B. Racing. Sedillo also conditions the altered son of So Long Birdie (TB) from the Birdonthewire mare So Long Birdie.

The $11,000 place check boosted the multiple stakes-placed runners' earnings total to $95,880. Double Eagle Ranch bred D E Lover.

Multiple stakes-placed and post-time favorite Infinite Bull finished half-a-length back for owner Tucumcari Thoroughbreds. Greg Green trains the homebred son of King Bull out of Fancy Numbers, by Polish Numbers. Infinite Bull earned $5,000 for the effort.

Executive Trust, Madams First Moon, Joey Valentine, Foose On The Loose and Cartel Mountain completed the field.
