Blane Wood has conditioned the earners of more than $14 million, including champions Leading Spirit ($811,413) and Haulin Pass ($178,855), and won last year’s Rainbow Futurity (G1) with Ms First Prize Rose ($543,595). Based in Lubbock, Texas, he and his son Trey have one of the most successful training operations in the industry. Last year, Trey in his own name sent out the earners of more than $2.4 million, and in his career since 2006 the earners of more than $8.43 million. With qualifiers Bodacious Eagle and Sam Crow in this year’s All American Futurity, Blane Wood is the son of Leo Wood, who in 1979 sent out champion Pie In The Sky to win the All American Futurity (G1).

Ricky Ramirez rode Bodacious Eagle on the second day of trials, after being the only rider other than champion jockey G.R. Carter Jr. to qualify a finalist on the first day. The sport’s third-leading rider in 2013, when he rode 104 winners and posted a career-best aboard the earners of $3,073,406, Ramirez since 2003 has ridden the earners of more than $18.37 million. He came into the trials with 33 winners from 281 mounts this year, with a career total of 44 stakes wins and 735 other wins from 4,721 starts. Riding first-call for the father-and-son training operation of Blane and Trey Wood, Ramirez won last year’s Rainbow Futurity (G1) aboard Ms First Prize Rose, the 2012 Heritage Place Futurity (G1) aboard BP Cartels Alibi and the 2010 Texas Classic Futurity (G1) aboard Bodacious Dash.

Johnny Trotter of Hereford, Texas, is the president of the American Quarter Horse Association. He raises commercial beef cattle on his ranches in Texas and New Mexico, and finishes cattle in his Bar G Feedyards at Hereford. Trotter in his own name since 2001 has bred champion One Famous Eagle (which he raced in partnership with Burnett Ranches), graded stakes winner Dash Back Perry ($226,642), one other stakes winner, 33 other winners and the earners of more than $2.5 million from 79 starters. Trotter also owns Texas Classic Futuriity (G1) winner Bodacious Dash, a $756,495 earner whose first foals will be yearlings in 2014.

Winning the seventh trial on Friday, Bodacious Eagle became one of two horses who qualified for all three Grade 1 futurities this summer at Ruidoso Downs. The other is JM Miracle, who qualified on Thursday afternoon.

Bodacious Eagle finished third in the $700,000 Ruidoso Futurity on June 8 and fourth in the $900,000 Rainbow Futurity on July 20. Coming into the All American trials off the Rainbow, Bodacious Eagle raced the 440 yards in :21.436 to nose out the day’s fifth-fastest qualifier Mad About The Moon, who was clocked in :21.442.

Bodacious Eagle is one of 130 winners from 236 starters by One Famous Eagle, a 9-year-old son of champion Mr Jess Perry and the stakes-placed Chicks Beduino mare One Famous Lady ($172,515). One Famous Eagle was bred by Johnny Trotter, who raced him in partnership with Burnett Ranches to be a Grade 1-winning earner of $1,387,453 and the champion sophomore colt in 2008. One Famous Eagle was the leading freshman sire in 2012, when he was represented by world champion and All American Futurity (G1) winner One Dashing Eagle ($2,079,065), and, with progeny earnings of $2,079065 that season broke the freshman record set 23 years earlier by First Down Dash. From three crops raced, One Famous Eagle has sired 19 stakes winners and the earners of more than $7.53 million.

Bodacious Dash is one of five winners and the earners of more than $200,000 from seven starters out of the winning Corona Cartel mare Bodacious Dream ($26,078), who is out of the champion Dash For Cash mare Dashing Phoebe ($609,553). Dashing Phoebe has produced two champions, three other stakes winners, 10 other winners and the earners of more than $2.37 million from 18 starters. Included among Dashing Phoebe’s foals are champion and All American Futurity (G1) winner Heartswideopen ($1,885,283, by Feature Mr Jess), champion Special Phoebe ($139,963, by Special Effort), and stakes winners Furyofthewind ($70,554, by Corona Cartel) and Solid Demand ($35,285, by Special Effort).

Bodacious Eagle is one of 29 winners and the earners of more than $835,000 from 54 starters bred by La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC of North Las Vegas, Nevada. Owned by the family of managing partner Javier Rodriguez, La Feliz Montana Ranch also is represented as breeder of graded stakes winner Significant Heart ($151,517), who last year ran in world champion Last To Fire’s Champion Of Champions (G1).
