Clocking :21.236 with Jose Alvarez riding for Mike Robbins, Tayte Me Down finished second by half a length to Point Break Dash in the eighth trial. In 2012, Tayte Me Down won three races but was scratched from the Dash For Cash Futurity (G1). Though winless in four races this season, the filly has finished second three times and was fourth in Wicked Courage’s Ruidoso Derby (G1).
Tayte Me Down was bred by Joe Kirk Fulton of Lubbock, Texas. An American Quarter Horse Hall of Famer, Fulton served as an AQHA director and director-at-large, and as chairman of the AQHA Stud Book and Registration Committee, which also has recognized him with the Gordon Crone Special Achievement Award. Fulton owned AQHA Champion Aledo Bar (who went on to sire 17 AQHA Champions) and bred American Quarter Horse Hall of Famer, 1977 National Cutting Horse Association Futurity winner and NCHA leading sire Peppy San Badger (“Little Peppy”).
One of the all-time leading horsemen in the American Quarter Horse industry, Fulton in his own name bred the race earners of more than $17.8 million, including 1984 world champion Dashs Dream (the track-record-setting Dash For Cash mare who earned $1,119,610) and 1991 world champion Special Leader. He is racing’s No. 3 all-time leading breeder by money earned, behind only Dr. Ed Allred and Vessels Stallion Farm. He is also the breeder of Grade 1 winner and top sire Mr Eye Opener. Other Grade 1 winners bred by Fulton include The Informant, Daring Difference, Jess Destined, Illusioneiress and Victory Defined, and he bred and raced standout horses such as Reckless Dash (who sired the earners of more than $3 million), Flaming Jet (who finished second to Timeto Thinkrich in the 1973 All American Futurity) and Fashionisanattitude (second to champion Eyesa Special in the 2000 All American).
Tayte Me Down is by Joe Kirk Fulton’s homebred 1991 world champion Special Leader ($292,605) a son of Special Effort out of a full sister to Mr Eye Opener who died in 2012. From 751 starters in 19 crops raced, Special Leader has sired champion Leading Spirit ($811,413), 63 other stakes winners, 438 other winners and the earners of more than $13.37 million.
