A $50,000 supplemental nominee to enter the trials, Hes Relentless is owned by the Tularosa, New Mexico-based partnership of R.D. Hubbard, Tom Maher and Johnny Cope. Hubbard owns Ruidoso Downs, of which the general manager is his son, Shaun Hubbard. Maher is an attorney in Fort Pierre, South Dakota. Hes Relentless was solely owned by Maher for the Heritage Place Futurity, and Hubbard and Cope obtained their interest about a month ago after the colt arrived at Ruidoso Downs.

With Cody Smith in the irons for Amber Blair, Hes Relentless won the eighth trial by length over Handsome Jack Flash, who qualified with the first day’s third-fastest time. Hes Relentless now has won three of four races, and came into the trials off a second-place finish to Big Biz Perry as the even-money favorite in the June 1 Heritage Place Futurity (G1). Big Biz Perry won the 12th trial but in a time that failed to qualify for the All American.

Since breeding the first of its 60 named American Quarter Horses in 2002, Sunflower Supply Co. of Galena, Kansas, has been represented by 32 winners from 47 starters, including stakes winners Hes Relentless and Miss Racy Jess, who was the sport’s champion 3-year-old filly in 2012. Racehorses bred by Sunflower have earned more than $1.57 million.

Hes Relentless is one of 60 winners from 150 starters in two crops raced by champion and all-time leading first crop sire One Famous Eagle, who in 2012 was represented by the earners of $2,932,336 and broke First Down Dash’s record as the all-time leading freshman sire. Now the sire of the earners of more than $4.1 million, One Famous Eagle has been represented by 11 stakes winners, including world champion One Dashing Eagle, who won last year’s All American Futurity.

Hes Relentless is one of five winners from seven starters out of the Strawfly Special mare This Dreams Flying, who has produced the earners of $274,511. A winning earner of $13,109, This Dreams Flying is one of 15 winners from 18 starters out of the champion Dash For Cash mare Dashing Phoebe ($609,553), who competed in Mr Trucka Jet’s 1985 All American Futurity. Dashing Phoebe has produced the earners of more than $2.37 million, including champion and All American Futurity winner Heartswideopen, champion Special Phoebe and three other stakes winners.
