Funeral Services Held Saturday In Sallisaw For Sharon Brooks

SALLISAW, OK—FEBRUARY 3, 2019—Funeral services were held Saturday (Feb. 2) for Sharon Kay Brooks, 73, CEO and manager of Rex Brooks Training Stables. She died Wednesday, January 30. Burial was was at the Sallisaw City Cemetery in Sallisaw, Oklahoma under the direction of Agent-Mallory-Martin Funeral Service, Inc.

Mrs. Brooks was born on June 4, 1945 in Borger, Texas to Joyce (Hester) Crum and Hubert Uptergrove. She was married longtime Quarter Horse trainer Rex Dean Brooks on February 27, 1965 in Sallisaw, Oklahoma.

She lived her life for her family and friends and was the chief operator and manager of Rex Brooks Training Stables. She kept everyone in line and spoiled all of her family and friends. She never missed a race and was known as the "candy lady" in the grandstand.

Mrs. Brook is survived by her husband Rex of the home, son Rex Dale Brooks of Sallisaw, OK; grandson Kaleb Charles Brooks of Stillwater, OK; a sister: Linda West of Spearman, TX; brothers: Mike and Ann Uptergrove of Bryan, TX and Jim and Ethie Uptergrove of Clarendon, TX; and her best friend Dr. Paula Haraway.

She was preceded in death by her daughter Shawna Michelle Brooks, her parents and a sister:Norma Titus.

Todd McKinney, Tim McKinney, Michael McKinney, Gary Brooks, Jason Brooks, Nathan Brooks, Joe Brooks, Justin Brooks and Cody Brooks served as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers included Jana Ketner, Dr. Paula Haraway, Sharon Gray, Sheila Neal, Shannon Jackson and Bobby Jack Merrill.
