Mardi Gras Futurity Schooling Races Set Friday, February 2, Entries Close Monday

BOSSIER CITY, LA—JANUARY 24, 2019—Schooling races for the $250,000-Guaranteed Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2) will be held Friday, February 1 at Louisiana Downs.

Schooling races for eligible Quarter Horse foals of 2017 will get underway at the Northwestern Louisiana racetrack at 11 a.m. (CST) and will be conducted at a distance of 220 yards.

Trainers must call Harrah’s Louisiana Downs racing office no later than 1:00 p.m. (CST) Monday, January 28, 2019 to enter the schooling races. To be eligible for a schooling race all horses must have a gate okay and have a tattoo. Trainers of horses not approved by the starter, must contact the starter to set an appointment to return for a gate okay.

Trials for the 300 yard restricted grade 2 Mardi Gras Futurity, for accredited Louisiana-bred foals of 2017, will be held on Saturday, February 23. The Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2) final, the first official futurity for American Quarter Horses in 2019, will be contested on Saturday, March 16.

First time starters must be tattooed to be approved from the starting gate. They are required to have two published works, one of which must be approved from the starting gate within 60 days of the race date and foal certificates must be registered in racing office.

Official qualifying gate workouts may be obtained at any AQHA recognized racetrack.
