LOS ALAMITOS, CA—NOVEMBER 5, 2018—Oscar Andrade Jr., the 17-year-old son of record setting jockey Oscar Andrade Sr. and graded stakes winning trainer Elena Andrade, rode his first winner ever after piloting Eladin Flores' One Cool Winner in the seventh race on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

Andrade Jr. had ridden only twice before his first win, both of those previous mounts coming aboard the mare My Friend Cindy. All three of his mounts have now hit the board at Los Alamitos and all three have been trained by Elena Andrade.

"It's amazing," said Andrade Jr. after the win. "I just want to thank my parents for helping me, giving me opportunities, teaching me, and being patient with me. I know it's kind of hard, but they've been there for me through it all. It's like a dream come true. I never thought this moment would happen, but here I am."

Andrade Jr.'s father piloted Secret Card and Sassy Smith to 2000 and 2001 Kindergarten Futurity wins, respectively, and also set a Los Alamitos record with seven Quarter Horse wins during a single night. He set the record during the Ed Burke Million Futurity trials on June 5, 2001.

Ten days after the birth of Oscar Jr., Andrade Sr. was injured in a riding accident that left him paralyzed from the chest down. Seventeen years later and the Andrades remain as deeply involved in Quarter Horse racing as when the days that Andrade Sr. was riding all those winners at Los Alamitos. And it's now his son's turn to win races at the Cypress oval.

"He decided this is what he wanted to do about a year ago and he's been working diligently to make it happen," said Elena Andrade prior to her son's riding debut in late September.

One Cool Winner is a homebred gelding by Whathaveigottado out of the mare A Super Bowl Winner. The 2-year-old won the 300-yard race by a head while covering the distance in :15.703.
