Wyoming Downs Live Horse Race Season Begins Saturday

EVANSTON, WY—JUNE 27, 2018—Wyoming Downs' live race season begins Saturday (June 30). Gates open at 11:30 AM, with 1st post at 1:05 PM. The 16-race day season runs every weekend through August 19. General admission is $10.00, with children under 12 free in the general admission stands. Clockers corner seats are $20.00 per person.

This year (2018) marks the 6th consecutive race season since owner Eric Nelson repurchased Wyoming Downs and began racing again in 2013. Live racing marked a resurgence of area industries related to racing.

The only privately-owned track in the state of Wyoming, Wyoming Downs will feature approximately 9 horses racing in 8 races per day. Racing usually conclude between 5:00 PM and 5:30 PM (MDT).

Purses have surged from $320,000 (three hundred twenty thousand) in 2017 to $580,000 (five hundred eighty thousand) in 2018. Eric Nelson projects winnings to climb to one million dollars in 2019. Horsemen come from approximately six states to compete for the purses.

Jodi Lopez, Director of Operations says, "The racetrack has been resurfaced for the 2018 season, resulting in higher quality with a softer, faster and safer track. We're looking forward to a terrific year!"
