RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—MARCH 28, 2018—The 70th running of the All American Futurity on Labor Day (September 3) caps a stakes lineup at Ruidoso Downs that features 7 Grade 1 races and more than $13.6 million in stakes purses and bonuses over 47 racing days.

The 2018 summer season starts on Friday, May 25, with the first of two consecutive days of time trials for the Grade 1, $1-million (est.) Ruidoso Futurity. Trials to the Grade 1, $750,000 (est.) Ruidoso Derby follow on Sunday May 27.

The Ruidoso Derby final is on June 9. The 350-yard Ruidoso Futurity final is on June 10, along with the $100,000 Ruidoso Juvenile; a race for two-year-olds that did not qualify for the Ruidoso Futurity.

The other Grade 1 races this summer are the $750,000 Rainbow Derby (July 21), $1-million Rainbow Futurity (July 22), $200,000 All American Gold Cup (September 2) and the $1-million (est.) All American Derby (September 2). The All American Futurity is the season’s ultimate event on closing day, September 3.

Ruidoso Downs offers a $2-million Triple Crown Futurity Bonus to the owners of a horse which sweeps all three futurities. New for 2018 is a $1-million Triple Crown Derby Bonus for any horse that wins the three Grade 1 derbies.

New Mexico-bred racing will be celebrated during the Zia Festival on July 28-29. The largest quarter horse purse is offered in the $400,000 (est.) Zia Futurity while the top thoroughbred purse is paid in the $175,000 (est.) Mountain Top Futurity. Zia weekend provides 11 stakes races carded over the two days.

New stakes added in 2018 include the $25,000 Dash For Speed Stakes on June 2 for 3-year-old and older quarter horse fillies and mares at 350 yards, and the $30,000 Ruidoso Sprint Handicap three-year-old and older thoroughbreds on June 17 at five-and-one-half furlongs. On the closing weekend schedule — with the featured quarter horse stakes — is the $30,000 Billy The Kid Handicap at a mile-and-a-sixteenth; the $30,000 Governor’s Handicap for fillies and mares at seven-and-a-half furlongs and the Ruidoso New Mexico-bred claiming stakes at five-and-one-half furlongs.
