Winter Mixed Opening Session Down Over Last Year

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—JANUARY 18, 2018—Heritage Place opened their 39th Winter Mixed Sale today (Thursday) with weaker numbers than the same session a year ago.

"Day 1's average was down $1,677 compared to last year's first day. We sold 88% of the horses offered," Spence Kidney, Heritage Place General Manager, said Thursday evening. "We probably had one of the greatest day 1 crowds for an opening Winter Mixed session in awhile and look forward to a great catalog for the next two days," he added.

During the first day (Thursday), $2,059,200 was traded on 240 lots sold for an $8,580 average and $5,500 median.

Fabian Bustamantes paid $62,000 for the high-seller Hip 288, a 2-year-old Corona Cartel colt from the G3-placed This Snow Is Royal mare A Snow Fling. Chris Benedict, Agent for AECOM/URS Federal Services, Inc. consigned the half-brother to Dash For Cash Futurity(G1) winner A Snow Cartel.

A pair of mares tied for the second high-sellers on Thursday at $50,000 apiece.

Donald Cavenaugh purchased Hip 38 Reloaded And Ready, a stakes producing Shazoom mare from the consignment of George "Buddy" Suthers. The half-sister to Champion Four Forty Blast, multiple stakes sire Holland Ease and Grade 1 producer Las Alamitos was in-foal to champion Jess Good Candy.

Late in the opening session PV Quarter Horse Farms, LLC sold Black Gold Futurity Championship(RG3) winner This Candys Okay to Billy Peterson for $50,000. The stakes winning and producing Okey Dokey Dale mare, from the Disco Jerry (TB) mare Send The Guys Candy, was also in-foal to Jess Good Candy.

The aforementioned Donald Cavenaugh paid $40,000 for a Corona Cartel "Foal In Utero" out of the Grade 1 producing Walk Thru Fire mare Whatfire. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Ron & Denise VanAmburgh was the consignor.

Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent was the leading consignor by gross in session one with 24 head brining $305,000. Bobby D. Cox sold 15 head $94,700 and Chris Benedict, Agent for AECOM/URS Federal Services, Inc. sold two head for $83,000.

Valiant Hero was the leading "short yearling" sale sire (by average with two or more selling) with two for $11,000. FDD Dynasty had three short yearlings average $10,400 and Coronado Cartel saw five head average $8,840.

Champion Jess Good Candy was opening session leading covering sire (by average with two or more selling) with two head for $50,000. Hes Relentless had two in-foal mares average $20,750 and One Fabulous Eagle had four average $9,675.
