Champion Producer Gold Daze Dies at 23
Dawn, Sharon and Rhonda List won the 2008 Champion of Champions with Gold Daze's son four-time champion Jess You And I.

Champion Producer Gold Daze Dies at 23

MORENO VALLEY, CA—JUNE 26, 2017—Gold Daze, the dam of four-time AQHA Racing Champion Jess You And I, died early Sunday morning. She was humanely euthanized after failing to recover from colic.

Owned by Double Bar S Ranch, LLC the Grade 2 placed daughter to champion and champion sire Tolltac won or placed in 22 of 28 career starts while earnings $53,274. She was second in the Yellow Rose Stakes, Frances Carr Distaff, Live Oak Handicap and placed third in the Retama Park Derby(G2), Frances Carr Distaff, Rheudasil Handicap and Manor Downs Handicap.

Trainer Don Poteet conditioned the brown mare for owner Ray Stutts. She was bred in Oklahoma by Robert W. Moore from the Dash For Cash mare Dashes Gold Digger.

Dawn and Rhonda List of Double Bar S Ranch purchased Gold Daze in 2000 from agent Joel Pierce for $40,000.

She is the dam of 26 foals, 22 to race, 16 ROM, 12 winners, 1 champion, 2 stakes winners and 4 stakes-placed with earnings in excess of $2.1 million.

Her 2004 foal, four-time AQHA Racing Champion Jess You And I, won 19 races and earned $1,851,691. Among his wins were the Champion of Champions(G1), Golden State Futurity(G1), Remington Park Championship(G1), Los Alamitos Winter Championship(G1), Robert L Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational Championship(G1), Go Man Go Handicap(G1)-twice and Remington Challenge Championship(G1). He set a new 440-yard track record of :20.944 seconds when he won the 2008 Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos Race Course.

"She meant so much to us," said Dawn List. "She's always been a doll to be around, and she was a warrior til the end of her life. She is one of those mares that you dream about that comes around and produces a superstar like Jess You And I for us. Those types of mares are so very hard to come by, and we will be definitely feeling the loss of her for years to come."

Gold Daze's other stakes horses included G1-placed Pushing Dazies SI 95 ($97,373), G3 winner Dog Daze Afternoon SI 108 ($49,877), G2-placed Wortherweightingold SI 94 ($36,277), stakes-placed Bank Steller SI 102 ($26,166), and stakes-placed Gold Medal Ribbon SI 96 ($16,169).

Her dam Dashes Gold Digger SI 97 ($53,274), is a G3-placed daughter of Dash For Cash out of the Champion Easy Jet mare Prissy Gold Digger ($299,589). Dashes Gold Digger is a half-sister to Golden State Futurity(G1) winner Awesome Blossom SI 104 ($118,511) and All American Futurity(G1) runner-up Digging For Gold SI 101 ($426,086), etc.

At the time of her death, Double Bar S Ranch was attempting to breed a full-sibling to millionaire Jess You And I, by Feature Mr Jess, through the ISCI process at Dr. Rick Beck's in California.

Gold Daze has a yearling filly by leading sire Mr Jess Perry that Double Bar S plans to keep and a weanling colt by Mr Jess Perry on the ground.
