AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION—JUNE 7, 2017—An unprecedented weekend at Ruidoso Downs featuring dead heats in both the Grade 1 Ruidoso Derby and Futurity shook up the AQHA Racing National Polls, resulting in yet another tie at the top of the 2-year-old poll.

The $1 million Ruidoso Futurity ended with Eagle Jazz and Uptown Dynasty hitting the wire in unison. As a result, this week’s 2-year-old poll has Eagle Jazz in a tie at the top with last week’s leader, Heritage Place Futurity (G1) winner Nymeria. Uptown Dynasty debuted in the poll at the No. 3 spot, with voters likely giving extra credit to Eagle Jazz for his runner-up finish in the Remington Park Futurity (RG2). Uptown Dynasty was making his stakes debut in the Ruidoso Futurity.

In the poll for older horses, the two winners of the $800,000 Ruidoso Derby, Tough To Bee and Magical Jess, both entered the poll in the fourth and sixth rankings, respectively. There were just three points separating them.

Zoomin Effortlessly, winner of the Remington Park Invitational Championship (G1) on June 3, held his spot at the top of the 3-year-old and older poll. Jessies First Down, who finished a head back of Zoomin Effortlessly in the Remington Championship, had a grip on the second spot.

More changes are probable in next week’s 2-year-old poll, as Los Alamitos will present the $1 million Ed Burke Million Futurity (G1) on Sunday.
