OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—OCTOBER 28, 2014—Former Broodmare of the Year First Prize Dash will be honored in Oklahoma City Thursday prior to the fourth annual "A Night With Legends of American Quarter Horse Racing", held in conduction with the Heritage Place Fall Mixed Sale and co-sponsored by TRACK Magazine.
Bred in Oklahoma by A.F. Stanley, Jr. and L.D. Burbank and owned her entire life by Stanley and his wife Weetona, First Prize Dash is a 1988 daughter of former leading sire Dash For Cash out of the Gallant Jet mare First Prize Rose.
First Prize Dash died in 2012 and is the only horse buried at Heritage Place in Oklahoma City. She will be honored on Thursday with a permanent grave marker at the base of the American Flag in front of the sales pavilion.
The public is invited to attend the First Prize Dash dedication and fourth annual "A Night With Legends of American Quarter Horse Racing" that will begin at 6:00 pm (CDT) Thursday, following the Pre-Sale party at 5:00 p.m.
"It is very fitting to honor this mare on a night of legends and Heritage Place is proud to be a part of the dedication of First Prize Dash," Heritage Place General Manager Spence Kidney said Tuesday.
With a modest race record, compared to her accomplishments as a broodmare, the sister to all-time leading sire, First Down Dash won or placed in nine of 11 starts and earned $77,465. She was a finalist in the 1990 Heritage Place Futurity(G1) and the 1991 All American Derby(G1).
Among her major accomplishments were:
- Only mare to produce 4 Grade 1 winners at Remington Park
- Only mare to produce a high-selling yearling at Heritage Place ($435,000) and Ruidoso ($650,000)
- Broodmare of the Year in 2006
- Dam of 2013's Leading Sire of Money Earners Heza Fast Dash
First Prize Dash's stakes offspring include:

First Prize Dash's sons have been equally prolific in extending this line into the racing industry.
As mentioned above her Grade 2 winning son Heza Fast Dash has been among the leading sires in every crop and in 2013 he earned the honor of the industry's leading sire of Money Earners. From nine crops to race Heza Fast Dash has sired 344 winners, 40 stakes winners, 29 stakes-placed with earnings of $18.5 million and average earnings per starter of more than $35,000. He sired the 2014 Dash For Cash Derby(G2) winner Dashin For A Prize SI 99 ($93,542), who was line-bred from a daughter out of his full sister Heritage Place Futurity(G1) winner Fast First Prize.
Heza Fast Dash has also the sired Ol Time Preacher Man SI 98 ($559,873 to 3), Zuppers Quick Dash SI 108 (12 wins $471,129), McM Dashmaster SI 106 ($424,872), etc.

Her latest son to hit the sire ranks is All American Derby(G1) finalist First Timber SI 99 who, from limited numbers in three crops, has sired 19 winners, four stakes winners, earners of $607,000 and average earnings per starter of $17,300. His 2014 stakes horses include Droppin Timber SI 101 (6 wins to 4, $129,868), Big Sluggo SI 98 (3 wins to 4, $57,882), Cruisinfourabrusin SI 90 (4 wins at 2, $50,401), etc.
First Prize Dash is also the dam of First Down Straw who is also a stakes sire from a limited number of starters in five crops. The son of Strawfly Special has sired 12 winners, two stakes horses that include Ajax Derby Challenge winner Piranhaaa SI 101 ($63,136) and stakes-placed Mr Speed Wrench SI 97 ($33,152).
First Prize Dash's legacy continues not only through her daughters and sons but granddaughters and great-granddaughters who have produced such stakes horses as multiple stakes winner Fast Prize Jordan SI 109 ($203,724); 2014 Dash For Cash Derby(G2) winner Dashin For A Prize ($93,542); 2013 Speedhorse Futurity(RG2) winner Spit Like Jagger SI 96 ($105,045); LQHBA Breeders Futurity(RG1) runner-up First Prize Jet SI 98 ($251,758), etc.
