RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 31, 2014—Ruidoso Horse Sale Company closed three days of strong trading at their select yearling sale Sunday (Aug. 31) with final figures well ahead of last year's successful event.
The sale's overall average on 347 horses sold was $44,828, marking an 8% rise over 2013, the overall median remained even at $30,000. Overall aggregate was up 18% higher at $15,555,400, more than $2.3 million ahead of the 2013 total. There were 93 yearlings that did not reach their reserve and 22 outs from the 465 head cataloged.
The second high-seller came in the closing session when Johnny Trotter paid $260,000 for a Apollitical Jess filly out of One Sweet Dash, by First Down Dash. Allred Brothers Ranch, LLC consigned the half-sister to world champion One Dashing Eagle and G1 winner One Sweet Jess, etc.
Dan & Jolene Urschel purchased the sale's third highest yearling in the second session for $235,000. Dreams Comes True Ranch consigned Betchacantcatchme, a Tempting Dash colt out of Dreams For Lyndsie, by Takin On The Cash.
Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for Double Bar S Ranch, LLC sold the sale's fifth high-seller Budder Think Twice, a First Down Dash filly to McColee Land & Livestock for $225,000. Out of the stakes winning Strawflyin Bud mare Budderfly Effect, she is a sister to Governor's Cup Derby(RG2) winner Scoop Of Sunshine and a half-sister to Golden State Futurity(G1) winner Igotyourtac.
Reliance Ranches, LLC was the sale's leading buyer with 14 yearlings totaling $1,764,000. Terry Stennett purchased seven head for $655,000, Johnny Trotter had three purchases for $572,000 and Dan & Jolene Urschel had four head totaling $480,000.
Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent was the leading consignor and/or agent with 25 head totaling $1,569,000. Burns Ranch had 20 head gross $1,131,000, Juliana Hawn Holt sold 14 yearlings for $824,500 and Roger Daly, Agent for Bobby D. Cox had 16 head bring $774,000. Lazy E Ranch, LLC, Agent for two other consignors were the fifth and sixth leading consignors.
Leading living sire of money earners Corona Cartel lead all sale sires (by average with two or more sold) with 25 head averaging $84,240. Volcom had two yearlings average $84,000, Walk Thru Fire knocked down 14 head for $69,786 and leading second crop sire Tempting Dash had 11 head average $63,955.
Favorite Cartel was the leading first-sale crop sire (by average with two or more sold) with five head at $60,000. Louisiana Senator had seven yearlings average $56,929 and Bodacious Dash sold four head that averaged $51,375.
