Q-RACING JOURNAL—AUGUST 16, 2014—Dustin Cox’s Im A Fancy PYC, the second-fastest qualifier on the first of two days of trials to the Grade 1, $2.6 million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs, will not return to run in the 440-yard final.

The All American Futurity trials were held on Thursday and Friday.

“We’re just doing what’s best for the horse,” said trainer Paul Jones. “He just took a bad step while pulling up.”

Im A Fancy PYC sustained a sesamoid injury and will be retired, according to reports from owner Cox.

“He’ll make a great stallion prospect,” said Jones.

His sire, Pyc Paint Your Wagon, is currently the leading sire of 2014 with his offspring earning $3.2 million. Im A Fancy PYC is his leading money earner this year at $403,515.

Im A Fancy PYC is out of the Mr Jess Perry daughter First Prize Fancy. This is the female family of world champion and all-time leading money earner First Down Dash and 2006 broodmare of the year First Prize Dash.

A possible favorite if he ran in the All American Futurity, Im A Fancy PYC won his trial by 4 1/4 lengths with a :21.337 time for the 440 yards. The day’s top time was :21.336.

Im A Fancy PYC won his first four starts, highlighted by his victory in the $861,000 Remington Park Oklahoma-bred Futurity (RG3). He had a troubled trip in the Grade 1, $1,021,000 Heritage Place Futurity and was placed sixth. That May 31 start was start prior to the All American Futurity trials.

A $50,000 supplemental nominee to enter the All American Futurity trials, Im A Fancy PYC will earn $52,000 from the All American Futurity purse. The All American Futurity pays through all 10 places, and the $52,000 is the amount given to the last-place finisher.
