AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION—JULY 30, 2014—Following his second major derby finals victory of the season, Moonist landed at No. 8 in this week's AQHA Racing-Horseplayernow.com National Poll for 3-year-olds and older, the only new face to the top 10 older horses in America. The Separatist gelding advanced to 5-for-6 on the campaign following Saturday night's score in Los Alamitos’ $189,238 Governor’s Cup Derby (RG3).
Life at the top of the older-horse poll remained unchanged as Houdini spent his second week at No. 1, following his victory in the Rainbow Derby (G1). The top of the national 2-year-old poll also remained firm with Kiss My Hocks a near-unanimous choice at the top once again this week. The two new entries into the juvenile poll this week came with No. 9 Discontent and No. 10 Girlonthego, a pair of winners in Saturday's California Breeders Champions Night card at Los Alamitos and Sunday’s Zia Festival of Champions at Ruidoso Downs, respectively.
Discontent, another gelding by Separatist, notched the $352,500 Governor’s Cup Futurity (RG2) for his third win in five starts and moved into the national poll. Meanwhile, Girlonthego made her debut in the rankings following Sunday's score in the $392,253 Zia Park Futurity (RG1) for New Mexico-breds. The Man On The Move filly has now won three consecutive races.
