TQHA Yearlings Enjoy Strong Market Led By Record-Breaking Filly

SAN ANTONIO, TX—JULY 26, 2014—TQHA ended their 17th annual Yearling Sale on Saturday with a record-breaking top yearling price of $250,000 and strong increases across the board in gross average and median prices.

While cataloging 10% less horses in 2014 from the previous year, the sale enjoyed a 15% bump in gross sales. The 2014 sale saw 183 yearlings marked sold for $2,477,800 as compared to 209 yearlings who totaled $2,163,800 last year.

The average price was up a whopping 31% to $13,540 compared to $10,353 in 2013. The median got a 27% bump to $7,000 from $5,500 last year.

"TQHA is very pleased with the over-all sale and results this year," Val Clark, TQHA Executive Director, said Saturday following the final session. "We want to especially congratulate the connections of Yellow Rose B who became the all-time high-selling TQHA Sale yearling in history."

Bielau Oaks owners' Miki Wright, Monica Williams and Lacy Johnston are joined by Dan & Jolene Urschel's trainer Stacy Capps and Bielau Oaks groom Jesus Montes with the TQHA high-seller Yellow Rose B.
Dan and Jolene Urschel of Canadian, Texas, who raced the only triple-crown winning two-year-old Quarter Horse in history—Special Effort—33-years ago, paid $250,000 for Yellow Rose B, a First Down Dash filly out of Mon Ti Fleur, by Mr Jess Perry.

Bielau Oaks Ranch consigned the half-sister to six winners and three stakes horses including RG2 winner Mon Ti Rose ($284,169). Her dam is a full sister to stakes winner St Pats Tea, making Yellow Rose B a full sister "in-blood" to Texas Classic Futurity(G1) winner Bodacious Dash ($756,495), Charger Bar Handicap(G2) winner Native Tea Rose ($238,055) and Firecracker Derby winner St Pats First ($173,113).

Perrys Dreamgirl, a half-sister to Bodacious Eagle who finished third in this year's Ruidoso Futurity(G1) and fourth in the Rainbow Futurity(G1), brought the second highest price when James Cordell went to $77,000 for the Mr Jess Perry daughter on Friday. Bobby D. Cox consigned the brown filly out of Bodacious Dream, by Corona Cartel.

Valerino Racing paid $62,000 for Governor Pete, a colt by #6 leading first crop sire Dealagame out of Smiles All Around, by Feature Mr Jess. Granada Farms, agent for Mike Amburn, consigned the half-brother to the 2014 Oklahoma Derby winner One Valliant Hero.

Dan and Jolene Urschel was the sale's leading buyer with the one purchase for $250,000. James Cordell paid $153,000 for four yearlings and David and Meg Brown purchased two head for $71,000.

Bielau Oaks Ranch was the leading consignor with five head for a gross of $355,000. Bobby D. Cox had 10 head sell for $309,500 and Delta Equine, Agent for Mercy Hinklin's Horse Farm LLC sold nine head for $141,700.

Mr Jess Perry was the leading sale sire (by average with two or more yearlings sold) with four head at $50,750. Leading second crop sire Tempting Dash had two yearlings for $39,500 and Pyc Paint Your Wagon had two yearlings average $38,000.

Bodacious Dash was the leading first crop sale sire (by average with two or more sold) with four yearlings averaging $31,500. Two-time AQHA racing champion Prospect To The Top had two yearlings average $23,950. and multiple Grade 1 placed Dominyun, also a first crop sale sire, had three yearlings average $14,167.
