RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—MAY 22, 2013—The quickest way to get trial times for the 25 Ruidoso Futurity trials on Friday and the eight Ruidoso Derby trials on Saturday is to follow the Ruidoso Press Box (@RuiPressBox) on Twitter.
First post time Friday is 10 a.m. (MDT) and first post time Saturday is 1 p.m. (MDT) with the first Ruidoso Derby trial projected to go at 2:44 p.m. (MDT).
The top-three finishers in each trial and their times will be tweeted as soon as the times become official. This is before they are released anywhere else. Then, usually within 20 minutes, the full charts are posted on Equibase.com. Go to the results pull down menu and select “Full Charts” for complete trial times.
Wr Golden Eagle and Anna Delovely, the top-two finishers in the Grade 1 West Texas Futurity, lead the 245 two-year-old hopefuls in the trials to the Grade 1, $750,000 Ruidoso Futurity. It is the richest running of the 350-yard Ruidoso Futurity and foreshadows the Grade 1, $1 million Rainbow Futurity and the Grade 1, $2.6 million All American Futurity. Each of those futurities also have record purses.
Reigning champion two-year-old filly PJ Chick In Black and Rainbow Futurity winner Carters Cookie are among the stars in a strong set of trials to the Grade 1, $822,000 Ruidoso Derby on Saturday afternoon. The $822,000 purse is an all-time record for the 400-yard Ruidoso Derby.
The $1 million (est.) Rainbow Derby and the $2.8 million (est.) All American Derby will also have all-time record purses this summer.
