Orb Seeks Second Jewel In Saturday’s Preakness Stakes

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—MAY 16, 2013—Lone Star Park is the place to be Saturday, May 18, 2013 to watch, wager and win on the 138th running of the Preakness Stakes plus 11 other simulcasts from Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland. Kentucky Derby winner, Orb, seeks to claim the middle jewel of horse racings coveted, and for over three decades, elusive Triple Crown. Orb has been installed as the even money favorite in the morning line (1-1) he will have to be the best of nine runners in the Grade 1, one and three-sixteenths mile classic.

Lone Star Park has 10 live races carded Saturday as well, so there will be plenty of horse racing action you won’t want to miss. Bar & Book will open at 9:00 a.m. First race post time at Pimlico, 9:45 a.m. Grandstand gates open at 11:30 a.m. First live Race at Lone Star Park is 1:35 p.m. Simulcast of the Preakness will be at approximately 5:20 p.m. CST.

Drive-thru wagering will be available Saturday at Parking Gate 1 from 8 a.m. until post time of the Preakness Stakes at approximately 5:20 p.m. (CST)

Black-Eyed Susan – A Preakness Tradition

Of course you will want to try a “Black-Eyed Susan” while cheering your horse to the wire. The traditional drink of the Preakness Stakes will be available Saturday, at all drink stations in the Grandstand. Customers can also enjoy live music featuring Empire 6 on our Courtyard of Champions stage from 1 to 5 p.m.

Second Annual Chick Lang Turf Classic

Lone Star Park will again be paying tribute to the late Chick Lang, former Vice President and General Manager of Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore on Saturday as a part of Preakness Stakes Day. As a consultant to Lone Star, he helped develop the hugely popular All-Star Jockey Championship held here from 1998 though 2004. He was also responsible for getting Eclipse Award-winning horse, Skip Away to race here during the first week of our inaugural season. In Honor of Mr. Lang, our sixth live race will be the second running of “The Chick Lang Turf Classic.” Lone Star Park’s Director of Racing and Lang’s grandson, Bart Lang will be in the paddock before the race to call the traditional “riders up.”
