Jess Lips Heads Second Crop Sire List for 2018

DALLAS, TX—JANUARY 1, 2019—Jess Lips, a multiple Grade 1-placed son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry, is the Leading Second-Crop Sire of Money Earners for 2018.

Owned by Valeriano Ranch Stables LLC and sanding at Lazy E Ranch near Guthrie, Oklahoma, Jess Lips had 17 winners from 35 starters in 2018 with earnings of $786,120. His top money earner was 2018 All American Futurity(G1) runner-up Im Jess Special V SI 93 ($523,262). He was also represented by All American Futurity(G1) trial winner Jess Kidding and Ruidoso Futurity trial winner Sera Jess Fine V, as well as allowance winner Jess Me Running V and First Lips.

In two crops Jess Lips has sired 24 winners, 2 black type, earners of nearly $900,000 with average earnings per starter of $21,938.

Lota Pyc, a son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon, is the #2 Leading Second-Crop Sire of Money Earners with $500,815. Property of Lota PYC Racing and standing at James Ranch in Wayne, Oklahoma, Lota Pyc is also tied for the #1 Leading Second-Crop Sire of Winners with 22 from 53 starters last season.

OHA Mystery Derby runner-up Lota Pyc Chrome was his sire's leading money earner in 2018 with $68,940. Lota Pyc was also represented by Speedhorse Derby winner Oltigbitties SI 96, Speedhorse Derby runner-up Lota Cac SI 101, Casto Rea Stakes runner-up Moment Too Moment SI 97 and Black Gold 350 Championship Futurity third-place finisher Lota Candy SI 92.

In two crops the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Futurity winner is the sire of 29 winners, 7 black type (11%), earners of $753,036 with $11,400 average earnings per starter.

Last year's Leading First-Crop sire Hez Our Secret was tied for Leading Second-Crop Sire of Winners and ended the season as the #3 Leading Second-Crop Sire of Money Earners with $417,061.

The Champion son of all-time leading sire First Down Dash, owned by Johnny Trotter and Reliance Ranches, is standing his second season at Lazy E Ranch. He had 22 winners from 57 starters and earnings of $417,061. His second crop was led by Mr Jess Perry Derby runner-up Hez Our Prize SI 94 and Blue River Derby runner-up Jessalilsecret SI 101.

In two crops to race Hez Our Secret has sired 31 winners, five black type, earners of $904,683 and average earnings per starter of $13,111.

Multiple stakes winner Fast Prize Jordan ended the year as the #4 Leading Second-Crop Sire of Money Earners with $408,483. Property of a syndicate, the son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon had 18 winners in 2018, led by LQHBA Million Futurity(RG1) third-place finisher Prize Dasher SI 97 ($114,200).

In two crops Fast Prize Jordan has had 28 winners, 3 black type, earnings of $616,963 and average earnings per starters of over $10,000. He will stand his first season at Louisiana Center For Equine Reproduction in 2019.

Rounding out the Top Five of Leading Second-Crop Sire's of Money Earners is Mercy Hinklin's Grade 3 winner FDD Going Grand. The son of world champion sire FDD Dynasty had 6 winners from only 11 starters in 2018 with earnings of $247,753.

FDD Going Grand had two stakes winners last season, led by Grade 3 Harrah's Futurity winner Going Nobel SI 102 ($109,541) and Heritage Place Juvenile winner The Grand Legend SI92 ($40,054).

From only 11 starters in two-crops to race, FDD Going Grand is the sire of 8 winners, 3 black type (27%) with average earnings per starter of more than $27,000. The young sire stands at Louisiana Center For Equine Reproduction in Opelousas.
