First Crop Sire Five Bar Cartel Gets First Stakes Winner

BREAUX BRIDGE, LA—MAY 6, 2018—First-crop sire champion Five Bar Cartel got his first stakes winner on Sunday when Ladys A Cartel won the $32,993 Pot O'Gold Futurity at Sun Downs and Kennewick, Washington.

Entering the race as the fastest qualifier from seven trials contested April 22nd, Ladys A Cartel defeated the field of nine 2-year-olds with an impressive 1-¾ length effort under jockey Ruben Lozano.

Racing for owner Jorge Carmona and trainer Danny Montes, Ladys A Cartel completed the 300 yards in a quick :15.390 clocking to earn a 106 speed-index. The filly brushed at the break but took a quick command to draw away from the field.

The California-bred filly was bred by A Regal Choice, Inc. from the Relagate (TB) mare Significant Lady. She is now 2-for-2 and has banked $13,505.

Currently the #1 First-Crop Sire of Money Earners in the US, Five Bar Cartel has sired 9 winners from a limited number of starters, 1 stakes winner, 1 stakes-placed with earnings in excess of $160,000.

He is also the sire of West Texas Futurity(G2) runner-up All Sophia Wanted, as well as two finalist to the RG2 Lassie Futurity and one finalist to the RG2 Laddie Futurity at Delta Downs. The finals of those stakes will run back on Saturday, May 19.

The son of leading living sire Corona Cartel was named AQHA Racing's Champion 2-Year-Old Colt in 2013. He won or placed in eight of 11 starts and earned $1,068,825. He won the Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1) and finished second in the All American Derby(G1).
