WAYNE, OK—SEPTEMBER 18, 2017—First crop Quarter Horse sire Second Painted Sign got his first stakes winner on Saturday when the Apollos Second Sign won the $23,500 Cricket Bars Futurity at Will Rodgers Downs.
Ridden by jockey James Flores, Apollos Second Sign completed the 350 yards in :18.025 seconds to pocket the $9,725 winners' purse in the futurity for Appaloosa 2-year-olds. Owned-and-trained by Michael Moss, the filly has compiled a (6) 2-1-1 record and earned $27,569 this season. Ronna Lovely bred Apollos Second Sign in Oklahoma from the Apollo (TB) mare Allies Apollo (AP).
From a limited number of Quarter Horse starters Second Painted Sign is a Top 20 Leading First Crop Sire of Money Earners in 2017.

Second Painted Sign won or placed in seven of 12 career starts and earned $101,604. Named the Oklahoma Hi-Point 3-Year-Old Colt, AQHA Regional 3-Year-Old Colt and OQHRA Oklahoma Owned 3-Year-Old Stallion in 2012.
He won the Oklahoma Horsemen's Association Derby and the Adequan Will Rogers Derby Challenge and was also a finalist in the Adequan Derby Challenge Championship(G2), Speedhorse Gold & Silver Cup Futurity(G2) and Mr Master Bug Handicap.
Out of the multiple stakes producing Vital Sign mare Stylish Sign SI 98 ($28,306), Second Painted Sign is a brother to RG1 winner First Painted Sign SI 104 ($284,911) the dam of Ruidoso Futurity(G1) winner First Valiant Sign SI 99 $1,020,344), Remington Park Oklahoma Bred Derby(RG3) winner and G1-placed A Tres Of Paint SI 98 ($509,184), Hobbs America Derby(G3) winner Apollitical Sign SI 94 ($113,523); and a brother to Grade 3-placed and Grade 1 Rainbow Futurity finalist Mr Pyc To You SI 95 ($88,561 to 4, 2017).
Second Painted Sign is a half-brother to RG2 finalists Signs Zoomer SI 98 ($30,044), dam of stakes winner and G1-placed Wagon Tales SI 99 ($427,579, 3rd in the All American Futurity-G1), and multiple graded winner The Fiscal Cliff SI 108 12 wins to 4, 2017 $404,491). Both are sons of Pyc Paint Your Wagon.
