First Down Dash Eclipses New Record

By Andrea Caudill

Q-RACING JOURNAL—APRIL 28, 2017—AQHA Hall of Fame stallion First Down Dash on Monday added yet another record to his already long legacy of records.

The 1984 son of Dash For Cash is now the all-time leading sire of winners, with 1,383 winners when Sunrise Creek broke her maiden on April 24. Sunrise Creek is a 2015 filly out of the Ivory James mare Rawhide Creek. She was bred by Jim Streelman and Bill Dale; and is owned by Rogelio Rangel.

First Down Dash surpasses Easy Jet, who for many years held the position at the top of that list.

First Down Dash is the sport’s all-time leading sire by money earned, with more than $86 million in progeny earnings. He is the leading sire of stakes winners with 253, and the leading sire of graded stakes winners with 148. He is the leading sire of Register of Merit earners with 1,685. He is the sire of a record six All American Futurity (G1) winners and six Champion of Champions (G1) winners. He has 2,373 registered foals.

First Down Dash died in 2010.
