Flyingwitheagles Sires First Stakes Winner

ELGIN, TX—FEBRUARY 26, 2017—Second crop sire Flyingwitheagles SI 96, a brother to four-time champion Heartswideopen, sired his first stakes winner on Sunday when Flyingforunclesam won the $15,000 Rillito Derby (see related story) at Rillito Park.

Racing for owner/breeder Kirk Goodfellow, Flyingforunclesam defeated heavy post-time favorite Cowboys Dynasty by three-quarters of a length. Ridden by jockey Mauro Salcedo, the gelding completed the 350 yards in a quick :17.263 seconds, a 105-speed index.

Cody Reynolds conditions the royally-bred gelding from the Takin On The Cash mare Dreams For Lyndsie, a stakes winning and multiple stakes producing half-sister to four-time champion Catchmeinyourdreams. The $8,250 Rillito Derby winners' purse more than doubled Flyingforunclesam's earnings total to $13,250.

From a limited number of starters in two crops, Flyingwitheagles has sired four winners, 2 stakes horses (18%) and average earnings per starter of nearly $7,400.

His top performers include the aforementioned stakes winner Flyingforunclesam SI 105 (2 wins to 3, $13,250, 2016 Rillito Derby), G2-placed Eaglelistic SI 86 (winner to 3, 2016 $44,728 3rd Hobbs America Futurity-G2, Four Corners Futurity, etc.), Brodgar (winner at 2, 2015 $13,270), Cant Phase Me SI 92 (winner at 2, 2015 $4,501), etc.

At the racetrack, Flyingwitheagles won or placed in three of nine starts and was a finalist in the Hialeah Derby. He earned $19,188.
