Prospect To The Top Gets First Stakes Winner

VINTON, LA—APRIL 23, 2016—Two-time champion and second crop sire Prospect To the Top got his first stakes winner Saturday night when Dicecapades won the $70,000 Laico Bird Stakes at Remington Park.

Despite a troubled start, the 2-year-old filly owned by Terry McLean and trained by Gerry McLean, surged to a ¾ length victory in the 330-yard race for Oklahoma-bred 2-year-olds. The brown filly completed the distance in :16.761 seconds to earn a 91-speed index. J. Garvin Kelly and Nancy Yearsly bred Dicecapades from the Tres Seis mare Dicey Riley.

From a limited number of starters in two crops to race, Prospect To The Top has sired five winners, 1 stakes winner, 1 stakes-placed with average earnings per starter of nearly $9,000.

Among his top performers are the aforementioned Dicecapades SI 91 (2 wins in 2 starts at 2, $26,309, Laico Bird Stakes), Paloma Blanca B SI 93 ($46,695 to 3, 2016 3rd TQHA Sale Futurity-RG2), Prospect Shadow SI 90 (winner to 3, 2016 $14,743), etc.

Also on Saturday night Prospect To The Top's 2016 two-year-old Champagne Prospect debuted at Delta Downs with a half-length victory and the 6th qualifying time for the $88,935 Old South Futurity. John Stinebaugh trains the filly from the Mr Jess Perry mare Jessachampagnewoman for owner Broken Arrow Farms. Cynthia Zoch is the breeder.

Owned by Joel Tavarez, Prospect To The Top won or placed 19 times and earned $992,670. Named the AQHA Racing Champion 3-Year-Old Colt of 2011 and Champion Aged Stallion of 2012, the son of Coronas Prospect won The Championship at Sunland Park(G1), Zia Park Championship(G1), Hobbs America Futurity(G2), Hobbs America Derby(G2), James Isaac Hobbs Stakes(G2), West Texas Derby(G3), All American Gold Cup(G3)-twice.

He was also second in the All American Derby, Mr Jet Moore Handicap(G3) and third in the Southwest Juvenile Championship(G1). Prospect To The Top also qualified to the All American Futurity(G1) and Ruidoso Derby(G1).
