Q-RACING JOURNAL—MARCH 29, 2016—If Coronas First Diva isn’t a princess by blood, I don’t know what is.
The filly is a product of leading living sire Corona Cartel and champion Spit Curl Diva.
In her second start, Coronas First Diva donned her tiara and became a graded stakes winner by taking the $420,000 Oklahoma Futurity (G3) at Remington Park on Saturday for owner Sara Leann Morgan of Edmond, Oklahoma.
The filly has earnings of $169,946 from those two starts.
Corona Cartel makes his home only a short drive from Remington Park, at the Lazy E Ranch in Guthrie. The 22-year-old stallion is one of only two stallions to ever break the progeny earnings mark of $50 million, and he has done so from 1,254 starters.
While he is a sire of sires – for example his son, Pyc Paint Your Wagon, was 2015’s leading sire – Corona Cartel is also a sire of distaffers. His top earners include all-time leading distaffer and world champion Blues Girl Too ($2,032,328), as well as Eye For Corona ($1,100,121), Remember Me Rose ($820,895) and champion Flying Fig ($806,920).
