Second Crop Sire Fire And Corona Dies

BROKEN ARROW, OK—APRIL 13, 2015—Fire And Corona SI 98, a Grade 1 placed son of leading sire Walk Thru Fire died April 4 after losing a courageous battle with laminitis.

Owned and raced by Denis and Julie Schoenofer, Fire And Corona got his first stakes finalist the night before when Finnick posted the second fastest qualifying time on the second night of trials to the $827,000 Remington Park Futurity(RG2). The two-year-old is a homebred for the Schoenofers'.

The Broken Arrow, Oklahoma couple purchased Fire And Corona at the 2008 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale for $80,000. He won or placed in eight of 19 career starts and earned $180,357. He was third in the Texas Classic Futurity(G1) and a finalist in the Firecracker Derby. Fire And Corona won his last race, an Allowance, on January 19, 2015 at Hialeah Park.

Fire And Ice is out of the Mile High Derby(G2) winner Corona Music SI 104, a winner of 8 races and $311,727. She was also second in the Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity(G1). Corona Music is the dam of five ROM including stakes-placed Check Out Corona SI 99 (8 wins, $80,627), etc. The second dam is the stakes producing Dash For Cash mare Dash To Music.
