First Crop Sires Have Big Showing In Oklahoma Trials

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 8, 2014—A bevy of freshmen stallions posted one of the best showings by first-year sires in recent history, placing five in in the top 20 from the 131 head who participated 15 trials for the $410,000 Oklahoma Futurity(G2) on Saturday night at Remington Park.

Ruidoso Derby(G1) runner-up Dominyun got his first of two winners Saturday evening when Joyce and Troy McClennen's Adelady defeated The Charm Of Corona by a head in the fifth trial while posting the fourth fastest clocking of :15.507 seconds for the Grade 2 Oklahoma Futurity.

Queen Catherine, by first crop sire Freighttrain B, got the 11th fastest time with a victory in the 9th trial on Saturday.

An $8,000 repurchase in the Heritage Place September Yearling Sale by her breeder Bobby D. Cox, Adelady was resold in the Fall Mixed Heritage Place Sale for $15,000 to the McClennens. Rodney Reed conditions the filly out of Game Snowlady, by Game Patriot. Champion jockey G.R. Carter, Jr. had the riding call.

Dominyun second winner of the night came in the Race 12 when Bp Judsen won for owner/breeder Bill Price. Rodney Reed saddled the gelding out Bp Southern Mariah, by Southern Cartel.

Dominyun stands to Royal Vista Ranches, near Wayne, Oklahoma, for a 2015 fee of $3,500.

Four freshmen sires got their first stakes qualifiers in the $50,000-Guaranteed Oklahoma Juvenile Invitational, for preferred invites by trial times, including Freighttrain B who sired 11th fastest qualifier Queen Catherine.

The Serge Protector, by first crop sire Capo de Capi, was an easy winner under jockey Jose Vega in the 2nd trial.

Luis Villafranco saddled the filly to victory in Race 9 for owner Betty Brown. The Gary Vaughn Oklahoma-bred stopped the timer in :15.628 seconds. She is out of the Agouti mare Ms Casholene and was ridden by Mario Delgado.

A RG3 winner of $421,761, Freighttrain B stands for a 2015 fee of $1,500 at Belle Mere Farms, near Norman, Oklahoma.

Champion Good Reason SA sired the 13th fastest qualifier, Woop Dee Doo, a $16,000 Heritage Place September Sale graduate who finished second in Race 11 and posted the 14th fastest time of :15.653 seconds. Owned by Ricardo Martinez, the gelding is out of Jess Racy Eyes, by Mr Jess Perry. Juan Martin Triana conditions with Alfredo Triana, Jr. riding. John Andreini and Vince Genco are the breeders.

Winner of the Grade 1 Champion of Champions, Good Reason SA stood at Royal Vista Ranch but died following his first breeding season.

Grade 2 winner The Louisiana Cartel sired his first stakes finalist, Js Abel Dasher who had the 16th fastest time of :16.653 seconds following a second place effort in Race 7. The homebred filly, out of Shaken Easy Dash by Dashin Is Easy, races for James Sills and Abel Flores and is trained by Eddie D. Willis. Jose Vega had the riding call.

The Louisiana Cartel won or placed in eight of 10 career starts and earned $127,941. He sands at Haddad Ranch near Seguin, Texas for a 2015 fee of $2,500.

Heritage Place Derby(G2) winner Capo de Capi got his second stakes finalist and first winner when The Serge Protector scored a three-quarter length victory in the second trial to post the 19th fastest time of :15.699. Eddie D. Willis conditions the homebred out of Directors Cut, by Walk Thru Fire, for Penny Zynda. Jose Vega had the ridding assignment.

The son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon got his second winner on Saturday's card in the next race (3) when Rachel Elizabeth won by half-a-length for owner Ryder Reed Zayas. Dee and Betty Raper bred the bay filly from the Okey Dokey Dale mare Okey Watch. Rodney Reed is the trainer.

Capo de Capi sired his first stakes horse on Friday night when Mt De Boss qualified to the Grade 1 $55,000-added Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity at Remington Park. Monty McNari owns the paint filly from the Sf Royal Quick Flash mare Mt Dash Olene. Bred by Max Thomas, Jr., Mt De Boss is trained by Eddie D. Willis.

Capo de Capi, who also a stands at Belle Mere Farms, earned $244,647 in two seasons at the track. His 2015 fee is $1,000.

Finals for the Oklahoma Futurity(G2), Oklahoma Juvenile Invitational and the Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity(G1) will be run Saturday, March 21 at Remington Park.
