LOS ALAMITOS, CA—SEPTEMBER 19, 2019—Trainer Justin Joiner enjoyed some huge victories at Los Alamitos towards the end of the 2018 season. He saddled Flash And Roll to a pair of Grade 1 futurities at the Orange County oval – the Golden State Million and the Los Alamitos Two Million – and was named the AQHA champion 2-year-old filly.

Joiner also saddled Johnny Trotter's Bodacious Eagle to victory in the Grade 1, $600,000 Champion of Champions – a win that launched the son of One Famous Eagle to the 2018 AQHA World Champion title.

Joiner has brought a string of talented runners back with him for the final quarter of the 2019 season at Los Alamitos. Two of them enjoyed solid victories at the Cypress track, including a full-sister to Bodacious Eagle by the name of Bodacious Dreamgirl. Bred by Bobby Cox and owned by Trotter and Randy Geiselman, Bodacious Eagle was impressive in her Los Alamitos debut, as she led every step of the way in route to a ¾ length win in :17.015 on Friday night.

"Nice filly," Joiner said. "She has a little bit to go. First race under the lights. She didn't go quite as fast as I'd like to see her, but she'll improve."

Winning her first race in three career starts, Bodacious Dreamgirl is eligible to both the Golden State Million Futurity and Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity. She's also eligible to run in the Los Alamitos Oaks to be held in March of 2020.

Next for Joiner was Lucky Ladies' A Lucky Ladies Man, a big-bodied gray gelding sired by Champion of Champions winner Good Reason SA. Bred by the late John Andreini and Vince Genco, A Lucky Ladies Man covered the 330-yard distance in :16.886 while rallying from third to win by ¾ lengths. The strong finish did not surprise Joiner, as he had seen the Texas-bred gelding make big late moves during his Ruidoso Downs outings earlier this year.

"That's fairly normal for that horse," Joiner said. "He does tend to look around quite a bit. I pulled the blinkers off of him just taking a chance. I haven't gotten the horse to break quite as well as I'd like to. He really runs at the end. Horse broke really well this time. It's kind of expected for a horse like him. He kind of lulled 50 yards out of the gate, but exploded late. It seems kind of normal for my horses under the lights for first time. This (outing) should really help for the trials."

A Lucky Ladies Man is eligible to both the Golden State Million and Los Alamitos Two Million, which are both contested at 400 yards. The son of champion Good Reason SA from the Mr Jess Perry mare Hot Lips Perry is a $62,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate.

"This horse is bred to go farther – 400, 440 yards and not 330 yards," Joiner said. "My horses are fairly fit. They come from Ruidoso and have already run a quarter of a mile. I have the advantage there, but horses here have the advantage under the lights. It kind of equals out. I'm just glad to be in the winner's circle."

On Saturday night, Joiner will saddle Trotter's Mr Racy Eagle, who will start from post three in the fifth race of the night.

"That's one of my favorite horses down there," the trainer added. "He'll be a first-time starter. Probably typical green, but he has everything under his belt. I qualified him here. Horse could have broken a little better, but he's a real finisher also. It'll be a good challenge for him."

The Texas-bred gelding worked 220 yards from the gate in :12.30 on September 3.

He'll be facing Ed Allred's quick breaking Full Moon and Butte Crest Ranch, Inc, and Rod Lowe's Up Is Up, a full-brother to multiple graded stakes winner Kiddy Up Cowgirl.
