Foose Secret Establishes New Track Record in Overnight Derby

RUPERT, ID—JULY 14, 2019—Coming off a win in the EIHA Derby June 23, Foose Secret rolled over Sweetheart Sammie by a 1-¼ lengths Sunday afternoon while setting a new track record in the $2,750 Rupert Downs Overnight Derby (not black type) at the Minidoka Fair.

Ridden by jockey Raphael Romero, Foose Secret completed the 300 yards in :15.361 seconds, a 106 speed index into a 6 mph crosswind. The previous record of :15.410 was established July 3, 2000 by Pay Nothing Til.

Farrol Cunningham trains the California-bred son of champion Foose for owner Jorge Murillo. Bred by Roque Gonzalez, from the No Secrets Here mare Beauty Secrets, Foose Secret earned $1,650 to increase his bankroll to $14,625.

Runner-up Sweetheart Sammie races for owner Merlin Sharp and is conditioned by leading trainer Monty Arrossa. Eric Ayala rode the Inseperable filly out of My Sweet Sammie by Ausual Suspect. Patricia Potts Estate bred Sweetheart Sammie in Oklahoma. She earned $687 for the effort.

Jason Udy's Code Name Valor finished half-a-length back in third to pick up $413. Owen Udy trains the Oklahoma-bred son of leading sire Valiant Hero from the Tres Seis mare Famous Mariah. Canadian River QH LLC is the breeder. Dallas Erickson was riding.
