EDMONTON, ALB—JULY 12, 2019—Tom Kenway's owned-bred and trained Double Cruise got his first win Thursday (Jul 11) when he got up by head over Timbergold in the $40,711(US) Alberta Stallion Stakes Futurity at Century Mile. Suits finished another nose back in a blanket finish to get third.
Under jockey Neville Stephenson, Double Cruise drifted inward while completing the 300 yards in :15.874 seconds, an 89 speed index into a 15 mph crosswind on a racing surface labeled "good". The win was worth $18,320(US).
Kenway bred the son of Bd Cruiser in Alberta from the Eye Take Time mare Eye Cruise.
Trainer Wesley Oulton sent out runner-up Timbergold for owners Joe Halerewich, Jack McCurdy and Greg Campkin. Roger Gauthier bred the daughter of leading Canadian sire First Timber from the First Down Dash mare Gilded Gold. She picked up $6,921(US) for the effort.
Stablemate Suits put in a late run under jockey Adrian Gonzalez to earn $4,072(US) for finishing third. Trained-owned and bred Oulton, the son of First Timber is out Burners Beauty by El Rey Burner.
Separate Xpress, Jb Hooter, Jb First Down Fame, Quarter Sawn, Sasses Loki and Allthespeedyouneed completed the field. Rolling Timber was scratched.
