SHAKOPEE, MN—JUNE 14, 2019—A short weather delay prior to the start of the Canterbury Park card foretold the results of the two trials for the $36,068 MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity as Hr Storm On In won the second trial as the fastest overall qualifier.

A quick moving thunderstorm delayed the start of the first trial briefly but left the track dry for the two 350-yard trials. The final will be held on Sunday, July 7 as part of Canterbury’s premier Quarter Horse stakes day, including three Challenge regional finals and the $156,000 Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity.

Fastest qualifier Hr Storm On In posted a time of 17.978 and earned a 90 speed index as he cleared the field by over two lengths.

Hr Storm On In ($5.80) is now undefeated in two starts at Canterbury. The Red Storm Cat gelding made two starts at Remington Park and finished third in a maiden race.

Jockey Doug Frink has been aboard Hr Storm On In in both of his Canterbury starts. Vic Hanson trains for owner Spencer Cordes. Hr Storm On In is out of the Ivory James mare Scentsy.

The first trial of the night produced the second fastest overall qualifier, Tipsy Girl B, with a time of 18.105 and a speed index of 87.

Tipsy Girl B ($3.00) was the heavy favorite in the first trial and first race of the night at Canterbury. Trained by four-time leading Canterbury Park trainer Jason Olmstead and ridden by 2018 leading Canterbury Park jockey Cristian Esqueda, Tipsy Girl B is now undefeated in two career starts.

She won her debut at Remington Park by a neck and won her second career race, her MQHRA trial, by nearly a length in a decisive gate-to-wire victory.

Tipsy Girl B is owned by Tom Maher and Paul Luedemann. She was bred in Texas by Bielau Oaks, out of the FDD Dynasty mare Devil Wears Prada B. She was one of seven horses entered in the trials by second leading 2-year-old sire Hes Relentless.

Relentless Jess was gaining late in the first trial to finish second behind Tipsy Girl B and post the third overall fastest time of 18.224.

Marcus Swiontek was aboard the Hes Relentless filly for trainer Randy Weidner and owner Tyler Stein. Relentless Jess was bred in Oklahoma by Sam Green, out of Southern Miss Jess, by Gold Medal Jess.

Still a maiden in two lifetime starts, Relentless Jess showed improvement in his Canterbury effort after debuting on a muddy track at Remington in May.

The MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity is open to any 2-year-old sired by a horse that was nominated to the online MQHRA Stallion Service Auction. The MQHRA Stallion Service Auction is held every January and features over 70 stallions from across the country.

First-crop sire Hes Relentless sired seven of the 10 finalists.
