Bell N Wire Fastest Qualifier For G1 $259,000 Speedhorse Graham Paint And Appaloosa Futurity

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 18, 2019—Trainer Matt Whitekiller qualified three Paints for the final of the Grade 1, $259,000 Speedhorse Graham Paint and Appaloosa Futurity on June 1 at Remington Park. Two in the trio qualified in the top three for the futurity, but it was Ray Enlow who had the fastest qualifier with Bell N Wire.

Enlow trains Bell N Wire, a 2-year-old daughter of CRM Livewire, out of the Little Jungle Jet mare Junglebell, was ridden to victory by Justine Klaiber, who qualified two of the top 10. The only rider that had more going to the final was Cody Smith with three. Two of his three were in the top three for Whitekiller. Bell N Wire is owned by Roy Perkins of Vernon, Texas. She was bred in Oklahoma by Enlow.

Bell N Wire ran second on April 27 in the $129,500 American Paint Classic Futurity to Southern Electric, who happened to be one of Smith’s qualifiers as the third fastest of the day. Smith’s other two horses were DTL Chasin Tale (second fastest) and Babe Wired (10th fastest), all three trained by Whitekiller. Smith will have a tough decision to make on which to ride in the Speedhorse Graham Futurity. DTL Chasin Tale is already a stakes winner, taking the $20,000 Victoria Ennis Memorial Stakes on April 27 and the $157,578 Oklahoma Paint & Appaloosa Futurity on March 23.

Klaiber also qualified Hey Ladeez, the eighth-fastest of the day, but this gelding may be better than his trial finish in the top 10 appears. He broke next-to-last and exploded to the front passing six horses to win by a half-length at the end of the 350 yards. He showed quite the turn of foot in making up all the ground to win.

Bell N Wire broke on top immediately in her trial and drifted out a bit as she cleared the field from the number one post-position at the rail. She went off as the betting favorite at 4-5 odds and got an 80 speed index for her efforts, covering 350 yards in 17.868 seconds. She paid $3.80 to win, $2.80 to place and $2.40 to show.

Track conditions for the trials had headwinds ranging from 13 to 18mph and all were run over a sloppy track as heavy rains hit Oklahoma City most of the morning and continued until after the first trial of the afternoon. Bell N Wire ran into a 14 mph headwind in her trial.
