Cartel Bug Wins For Second Time In Two Tries At Remington Park In 2019, Takes Down Feature Race

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 18, 2019—Trainer Sammy Valdivia gives jockey Juan Pulido a leg up on Cartel Bug at Remington Park and for the second time in a row in 2019, this was the winning formula, Thursday night in the feature race at Remington Park.

Cartel Bug, a 4-year-old gelded son of This Cartel is Cold, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Shays Luvbug, has been unbeatable since being laid off from July 18, 2018, when he last raced at Fair Meadows in Tulsa. Owned by Joel Pierce of Sallisaw, Okla., Cartel Bug got up by the shortest of noses over 4-5 wagering favorite Walk Off, who had won both of his races at 350 yards and four of five starts at Remington Park.

Cartel Bug earned $12,042 from the $22,200 race run under conditions of non-winners of a race other than maiden, claiming, starter or trial this year, or running for a claiming price of $50,000.

Pulido, the fifth-leading rider this meet at Remington, stepped on the gas right out of the gate aboard Cartel Bug and went wire to wire in a virtual match race with Walk Off. The winner was bred in Texas by Alejandro Moya. It was a tight finish for the top three spots as Myst Fit ran third, a neck back of Walk Off.

Cartel Bug went off at 5-1 odds and paid $13.60 to win, $5.80 to place and $3.20 to show. His winning time was 17.504 seconds on the fast track for a speed index of 90. His record moved to 11 starts, four wins, three seconds and one third for a lifetime bankroll of $51,128. He has won three of eight starts at Remington Park and two of four at 350 yards.

Racing continues Friday at Remington Park with 12 races beginning at 6 p.m.
