OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 15, 2019—Lynnder 16 qualified for the $3 million All American Futurity last year in American Quarter Horse racing’s biggest annual event. She also won the $864,000 Remington Park Futurity, so it was no surprise that the 3-year-old filly won the $31,250 allowance feature race in Oklahoma City on Sunday.

The surprise was that she went off at the generous price of 2-1 odds and the other shocker was that she was only able to prevail in this spot by a nose.

It was, however, her first start in more than six months, and this field of allowance horses was stakes caliber. Regular jockey Cristian Esqueda was in to ride this daughter of Apollitical Jess, out of the Corona Cartel mare Tinys Corona Queen, and had just enough under his saddle to squeak out the victory for trainer Jason Olmstead and owners Tom Maher and Dick Tobin of Pierre, S.D.

Lynnder 16 was bred in Oklahoma by James and Marilyn Helzer.

Lynnder 16 earned $16,634 for the win to give her a lifetime bankroll of $477,780 in only seven career starts. She has won four of those, finished second once and third another time.

Lynnder 16 ran only a head back of Wokatee On Fire in the trials for the All American Futurity last year, a horse that was the runner-up in last year’s $1 million Heritage Place Futurity at Remington in 2018. Lynnder 16 went off at 10-1 odds in the All American but was bumped at the break of that race and never had a chance, being forced to alter paths. She wound up eighth but received a $90,000 check for that effort.

On Sunday, Lynnder 16 made her 3-year-old debut here and had to wait out a photo for the win against Preyn Onthe Mountain, a 4-year-old mare that had never run worse than second in four trips to the racetrack.

Despite never having run in stakes-company on her form, Preyn Onthe Mountain stepped up with these horses and didn’t blink an eye, just missing in the win photo at 5-1 odds. Trainer Eddie D. Willis conditions the Ivory Maes filly for owner Stetson Hurlbert. She is out of the Panther Moutain mare Prey.

Hot Dam Bam A Lam was another half-length back in third at 4-1 odds. That 4-year-old Captian Courgel gelding was only a head back last year from winning the $55,000 Jack Brook Stakes at Remington Park on May 28, 2018. Donnie Strickland trains the black gelding out of Hot Nova by Hot Coours for owner/breeder Gene Cox .

Racing continues Thursday with 11 races beginning at 6pm.
